About
Art to me is a feeling, a part of my soul, whether it’s painting during the happiest or saddest of moments. My paint brush is my best friend yet sometimes my worst enemy. I realized at a young age painting was my love and struggle. It challenged me. Forced me to have patience. Oil paint cannot be the most forgiving medium to work with, but with my friend “turp” and a cloth (usually an old shirt torn apart), it can easily be maneuvered, removed, and repainted.
I remember going to my first portfolio review at the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. with my parents. I was 16. I had two oil paintings and some drawings. A tree stump and an orchid. I loved that tree stump. It was my very first painting and it’s still hanging on my wall. I went to visit the Pratt Institute table to have my work reviewed. Years later, I received a Fine Arts degree from Pratt. Some of the best years of my life. I owe a lot to that tree stump.
I moved back to Washington after school in New York to be close to my family and friends, who mean so much to me. I met wonderful artists in the city and fell in love with it all over again. It is a beautiful, busy, artistic, and, at the same time, conservative city.
Living and painting in France has always been a dream. I met an amazing french man while living in D.C. and now we live just around the corner from Paul Cézanne’s home. He’s my inspiration. The art, culture, atmosphere, people, and food in France have created an amazing journey and new depth to my work. Art is a wonder and I’m excited for the adventures and creations it brings.
